It’s happening folks: According to techcrunch.com, a Canadian company has won a patent to make a space elevator (Thoth). These elevators would rise about 12 miles above sea level, and could be use to transport equipment, and even people.

The first time I remember space elevators being mentioned was in a Halo book (I don’t remember exactly which one), and the idea seemed pretty cool.

Now with the possibility of these elevators coming to appearance in the near future, would you take one up just for fun? Let us know!
